A lot of rpg’s want you to look at your character sheet to see what you can do. Most good game masters will allow at least some leeway / freedom in doing cool things not quite covered by the rules and your character stats, but that’s not structural.

MHRP is structured to promote creativity, ingenuity and, especially, cinematic flair. As the Thing you could just punch the villains constantly – that’s a valid way to deal with villains. But how about ripping up a tree to bat at a villain in the air? Or chucking a car? Going more obscure, how about tearing open a fire hydrant and deflecting the water spray at a baddie? Or really going away from typical game activities, what if your Thing wants to talk the villain into surrendering, fleeing, or even is just trying to goad the villain into getting so angry as to make a mistake? I can think of some games with rules for some of this, but often they are clunky and sometimes very obscure. In MHRP these actions works just like doing anything else, as simple as punching the villain.

In short, if you can think of something cool you want to try, like you’d read in a comic or see in an action movie, state it and more likely than not the group can help you figure out how to roll for it if you don’t have a handle on dice pools yourself.
